Alpharetta PAL Announces Fox 5 Mark Hayes as its Annual Ball Master of Ceremonies
Released on: Thursday, January 17, 2008 4:30 PM

The Alpharetta Police Athletic League (PAL) is excited to announce Mark Hayes, co-host of Good Day Atlanta and Fox news reporter, as the master of ceremonies for the 12th Annual PAL Benefit and Recognition ball to be held at the Metropolitan Club on February 1st.
Mark joined FOX 5 Atlanta as the Morning News and "Good Day Atlanta" co-host in April 2002. Prior to that, Mark anchored Detroit’s top ranked 5pm newscast at WXYZ-TV. Mark’s on-air career began in Albany, Georgia at WALB-TV. He has also worked at WOKR in Rochester, New York, KMGH-in Denver and WBAL in Baltimore.
Active in his community, Mark is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He often travels to schools to talk to kids about a variety of topics including education, self-esteem and drug prevention. He also manages to find time to coach basketball and volunteers for the Boys and Girls Clubs.
The National Press Photographers Association recognized Mark and his colleagues with a first place national award for outstanding coverage in the 1996 riots following a rock concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside of Denver.
“Mark has been very active with PAL and we are excited to have him as the master of ceremonies at our event,” said CEO Jim Little. PAL boxing coach Craig Sconion, said “Mark has been a great help to our program and we always enjoy his infectious smile and charisma in the gym.”
The event will include live music by Big Swig and silent auction with all proceeds going to the PAL program. Some highlights of the items for auction will be lunch with Mark Hayes and Suchita Vadlamani at the Fox Sports Grill, guided kayak fishing trip on Lake Lanier, deep sea fishing trip with guide Terry Joyner, African Safari, and many more cool items.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the PAL gym or by contacting Officer Jim Little at 678-297-6309 x1 or jlittle@alpharetta.ga.us
With the overall objective of youth crime prevention, PAL’s mission is to provide an environment of “LEADERS BUILDING LEADERS” using a three-prong system of having kids teaching/mentoring kids under the supervision of, and in partnership with, the Alpharetta Police Department. PAL utilizes local high school student leaders, as well as adult community leaders, to serve as conduits to building relationships with program participants.

Black & White Winter Gala To Benefit PAL Scheduled
Released on: Monday, January 7, 2008 9:30 AM
Black and White Winter Gala to Benefit PAL Scheduled February 1st
The Alpharetta Police Athletic/Activities League (Alpharetta PAL) is pleased to host its’ 12th Annual Benefit and Recognition Event to be held on Friday, February 1, 2008. This year’s theme will be “Black & White Winter Gala” and will include a Silent Auction, Dinner Buffet, Live Band, Dancing and Special Entertainment. The event will be held at the Metropolitan Club on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $75 each and are tax-deductible according to IRS rules.
“The Alpharetta PAL program enjoyed the most successful year in its 12 year history during 2007,” stated PAL CEO Jim Little. This event provides a great venue for us to meet and greet our donors and supporters in a fun, interactive, social setting,” continued Officer Little. PAL Chairman Glenn Schulman could not agree more with Officer Little and “looks forward to further strengthening our programs, creating continued and new relationships with the business and social community and seeking new opportunities to build the leadership qualities of the children we support in 2008.”
The mission of PAL is to provide an environment of LEADERS BUILDING LEADERS using a three prong system of having kids teaching/mentoring kids under the supervision of and in partnership with the Alpharetta Police Department, with the overall objective of youth crime prevention.
Alpharetta PAL is a 501c3 nonprofit community based outreach organization created to provide a variety of services to Alpharetta’s youth while establishing a bond of mutual respect, understanding and trust with the Alpharetta Police. The City of Alpharetta Police Athletic/Activities League, often referred to as PAL, is a nationally affiliated non-profit organization which formed in Alpharetta in 1996.
Police officers, corporations, and other community members volunteer their time, funds, and talents to help provide opportunities for local kids to join in activities that are a bit different from the mainstream activities usually offered through the regular parks and recreations programs.
More than just an athletic program, PAL is also a mentoring program, giving young people a chance to interact with police officers in a positive and friendly manner. While athletics initially captures the interest of the kids, the mentoring possibilities frequently take hold, facilitating better relationships between officers and children.
